The Lore of Zephora

Excerpts from the Book of Knowledge

I. The Land Before

Zephora was never a gentle land. Its kingdoms were carved from forest and hill by people who knew the value of a strong wall and a sharp blade. For generations the keeps held, the roads were watched, and the merchants' wagons moved safely from town to town.

But beneath the realm ran a current older than any crown. The learned called it the Weave, and those who studied it long enough could draw on it: to mend a wound, to call fire from empty air, or to see what others could not.

II. The Book of Knowledge

Magic in Zephora is not inherited and cannot be bought. It is learned, and what is learned is written. Every adventurer carries a Book of Knowledge, and its pages are not filled by a scribe but by experience: the battles survived, the spells practised until they hold, the hard lessons of the road.

A warrior's tome fills with the discipline of steel and the strength to endure. A scholar's grows heavy with incantations. Most heroes find their pages drawn from both. In time the Book becomes a true record of its bearer, and the measure of what they can do.

III. The Fall of the Old Order

No chronicle agrees on how the old order ended, only that it did. The watch fires went dark. The great houses turned inward or fell to ruin. Into the silence came the creatures of the wild: beasts grown bold, spiders that spin across whole valleys, and stranger things that the oldest pages describe only in warnings.

IV. The Call to Adventure

Yet the realm is not lost. Merchants still trade in the market squares. Quest-givers still post their notices and pay for capable hands. And across Zephora, those with courage are banding together into guilds, sworn companies that share their strength, their knowledge, and their spoils.

The realm does not need another king. It needs heroes who will learn, and fight, and write their names into the Book.
